Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Technology, Consumer Services and Consumer Goods sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.58%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 1.41%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 2.20%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM), which rose 3.96% or 9.95 points to trade at 261.07 at the close. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) added 3.33% or 1.56 points to end at 48.45 and Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN) was up 2.60% or 7.88 points to 310.88 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which lost 8.03% or 19.99 points to trade at 229.01 in late trade. Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) declined 0.61% or 0.92 points to end at 149.48 and Honeywell International Inc (NASDAQ:HON) shed 0.43% or 0.87 points to 202.66.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were American Airlines Group (NASDAQ:AAL) which rose 7.21% to 14.58, Arista Networks (NYSE:ANET) which was up 6.47% to settle at 245.86 and NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) which gained 6.43% to close at 522.53.
The worst performers were Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) which was down 8.03% to 229.01 in late trade, Schlumberger NV (NYSE:SLB) which lost 2.99% to settle at 50.31 and Baker Hughes Co (NASDAQ:BKR) which was down 2.93% to 32.44 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Harpoon Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:HARP) which rose 111.94% to 22.36, Elevation Oncology Inc (NASDAQ:ELEV) which was up 106.95% to settle at 1.81 and Ambrx Biopharma Inc ADR (NASDAQ:AMAM) which gained 101.54% to close at 27.47.
The worst performers were Alset Capital Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:ACAX) which was down 63.27% to 3.82 in late trade, LumiraDx Ltd (NASDAQ:LMDX) which lost 53.49% to settle at 0.02 and Dada Nexus Ltd (NASDAQ:DADA) which was down 45.87% to 1.71 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2094 to 812 and 50 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2361 rose and 1076 declined, while 102 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 2.02% to 13.08.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.73% or 14.95 to $2,034.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 3.86% or 2.85 to hit $70.96 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 3.02% or 2.38 to trade at $76.38 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.10% to 1.10, while USD/JPY fell 0.31% to 144.20.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 102.00.
