Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Technology, Industrials and Consumer Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.48%, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.71%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 0.98%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were 3M Company (NYSE:MMM), which rose 1.98% or 3.57 points to trade at 183.78 at the close. Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) added 1.51% or 2.24 points to end at 150.11 and Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) was up 1.49% or 5.48 points to 373.11 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS), which lost 1.64% or 2.66 points to trade at 159.45 in late trade. International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM) declined 0.97% or 1.17 points to end at 119.10 and JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:JPM) shed 0.57% or 0.95 points to 166.66.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Micron Technology Inc (NASDAQ:MU) which rose 4.24% to 77.71, Laboratory Corporation of America Holdings (NYSE:LH) which was up 4.05% to settle at 298.50 and Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:FB) which gained 3.75% to close at 340.03.
The worst performers were Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co (NYSE:HPE) which was down 8.03% to 14.66 in late trade, American Airlines Group (NASDAQ:AAL) which lost 5.16% to settle at 20.23 and Carnival Corporation (NYSE:CCL) which was down 3.63% to 22.18 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Altamira Therapeutics Ltd (NASDAQ:CYTO) which rose 53.29% to 2.330, Everspin Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:MRAM) which was up 49.09% to settle at 9.810 and Soc Telemed Inc (NASDAQ:TLMD) which gained 33.37% to close at 2.841.
The worst performers were Oncorus Inc (NASDAQ:ONCR) which was down 46.04% to 5.99 in late trade, Acutus Medical Inc (NASDAQ:AFIB) which lost 43.98% to settle at 3.73 and Catalyst Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:CBIO) which was down 40.31% to 1.755 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1814 to 1424 and 111 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1961 rose and 1746 declined, while 159 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 7.93% to 16.26.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.09% or 1.75 to $1865.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.92% or 0.75 to hit $80.84 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.94% or 0.78 to trade at $82.09 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.07% to 1.1443, while USD/JPY fell 0.11% to 113.93.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.05% at 95.123.
