Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Consumer Goods and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.43%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.42%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 0.54%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which rose 5.21% or 2.50 points to trade at 50.50 at the close. Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT) added 1.82% or 5.27 points to end at 295.63 and 3M Company (NYSE:MMM) was up 1.66% or 1.76 points to 108.09 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL), which lost 0.28% or 0.55 points to trade at 193.05 in late trade. Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT) declined 0.15% or 0.24 points to end at 156.41 and Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN) shed 0.09% or 0.26 points to 283.90.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) which rose 5.21% to 50.50, APA Corporation (NASDAQ:APA) which was up 3.70% to settle at 37.29 and Monolithic Power Systems Inc (NASDAQ:MPWR) which gained 3.14% to close at 637.04.
The worst performers were Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd (NYSE:NCLH) which was down 2.82% to 20.36 in late trade, Etsy Inc (NASDAQ:ETSY) which lost 2.78% to settle at 82.59 and Carnival Corporation (NYSE:CCL) which was down 1.69% to 18.61 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were ARB IOT Group Ltd (NASDAQ:ARBB) which rose 175.53% to 2.59, Bit Brother Ltd (NASDAQ:BETS) which was up 111.54% to settle at 0.01 and RayzeBio Inc (NASDAQ:RYZB) which gained 100.85% to close at 61.40.
The worst performers were JetAI Inc (NASDAQ:JTAI) which was down 39.16% to 1.60 in late trade, Milestone Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:MIST) which lost 30.90% to settle at 1.99 and MicroAlgo Inc (NASDAQ:MLGO) which was down 30.67% to 1.13 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2126 to 752 and 73 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2340 rose and 1113 declined, while 99 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 0.31% to 12.99.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.46% or 9.50 to $2,078.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 2.30% or 1.69 to hit $75.25 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 2.18% or 1.72 to trade at $80.52 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.32% to 1.10, while USD/JPY rose 0.06% to 142.43.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.22% at 101.11.
