Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Utilities and Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.36% to hit a new all time high, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.71%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 0.91%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH), which rose 2.29% or 6.55 points to trade at 292.03 at the close. Pfizer Inc (NYSE:PFE) added 2.11% or 0.81 points to end at 39.14 and Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) was up 1.71% or 4.71 points to 279.86 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which lost 4.29% or 14.67 points to trade at 327.00 in late trade. American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) declined 0.83% or 1.04 points to end at 123.68 and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) shed 0.16% or 0.09 points to 57.70.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Cabot Oil & Gas Corporation (NYSE:COG) which rose 4.91% to 16.89, Under Armour Inc A (NYSE:UAA) which was up 4.61% to settle at 20.43 and Mosaic Co (NYSE:MOS) which gained 4.56% to close at 19.48.
The worst performers were International Flavors & Fragrances Inc (NYSE:IFF) which was down 10.43% to 120.00 in late trade, Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) which lost 4.29% to settle at 327.00 and Newell Brands Inc (NASDAQ:NWL) which was down 4.16% to 18.41 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Mirum Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:MIRM) which rose 110.99% to 17.28, Jason Industries Inc (NASDAQ:JASN) which was up 90.70% to settle at 0.410 and Axsome Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:AXSM) which gained 70.55% to close at 79.80.
The worst performers were Wave Life Sciences Ltd (NASDAQ:WVE) which was down 55.35% to 16.79 in late trade, Gossamer Bio Inc (NASDAQ:GOSS) which lost 37.09% to settle at 15.96 and Genius Brands International Inc (NASDAQ:GNUS) which was down 30.00% to 0.2100 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1923 to 924 and 89 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1617 rose and 1061 declined, while 78 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 3.88% to 12.14.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.05% or 0.75 to $1480.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.27% or 0.16 to hit $60.14 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.08% or 0.05 to trade at $65.31 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.04% to 1.1146, while USD/JPY rose 0.06% to 109.56.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 96.625.
