Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Technology, Consumer Services and Consumer Goods sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.17% to hit a new 1-month high, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.28%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 0.90%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which rose 2.16% or 0.82 points to trade at 38.77 at the close. Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM) added 2.13% or 4.42 points to end at 211.84 and Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) was up 1.97% or 2.11 points to 109.36 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX), which lost 1.76% or 2.59 points to trade at 144.41 in late trade. Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW) declined 1.64% or 0.81 points to end at 48.53 and Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT) shed 1.41% or 3.36 points to 234.92.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Gen Digital Inc (NASDAQ:GEN) which rose 8.48% to 18.93, Expedia Inc (NASDAQ:EXPE) which was up 5.79% to settle at 118.05 and Match Group Inc (NASDAQ:MTCH) which gained 5.41% to close at 29.99.
The worst performers were Air Products and Chemicals Inc (NYSE:APD) which was down 12.65% to 254.46 in late trade, Emerson Electric Company (NYSE:EMR) which lost 7.41% to settle at 84.94 and Schlumberger NV (NYSE:SLB) which was down 5.58% to 53.33 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Cardio Diagnostics Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:CDIO) which rose 102.94% to 1.38, Senti Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:SNTI) which was up 78.08% to settle at 0.52 and Jaguar Global Growth Corporation I (NASDAQ:JGGC) which gained 69.64% to close at 9.50.
The worst performers were Ventyx Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:VTYX) which was down 80.62% to 2.73 in late trade, Worldwide Webb Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:WWAC) which lost 63.90% to settle at 2.65 and Alto Ingredients Inc (NASDAQ:ALTO) which was down 60.73% to 1.93 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1695 to 1226 and 64 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1818 fell and 1640 advanced, while 141 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 0.54% to 14.81 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.67% or 13.25 to $1,975.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 4.18% or 3.38 to hit $77.44 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 4.02% or 3.42 to trade at $81.76 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.14% to 1.07, while USD/JPY rose 0.21% to 150.38.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.30% at 105.36.
