Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Technology, Consumer Services and Basic Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.07%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.58%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 1.05%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which rose 2.26% or 0.79 points to trade at 35.68 at the close. Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM) added 1.61% or 3.36 points to end at 212.06 and Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) was up 1.37% or 1.47 points to 108.91 in late trade.
Biggest losers included 3M Company (NYSE:MMM), which lost 1.08% or 1.13 points to trade at 103.42 in late trade. Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA) declined 0.95% or 0.28 points to end at 29.07 and Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) shed 0.88% or 2.99 points to 337.74.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) which rose 7.09% to 437.53, Micron Technology Inc (NASDAQ:MU) which was up 6.07% to settle at 68.28 and Steel Dynamics Inc (NASDAQ:STLD) which gained 5.23% to close at 107.65.
The worst performers were KeyCorp (NYSE:KEY) which was down 4.67% to 11.02 in late trade, Comerica Inc (NYSE:CMA) which lost 3.89% to settle at 50.09 and Citizens Financial Group Inc (NYSE:CFG) which was down 3.68% to 29.58 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Zynerba Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:ZYNE) which rose 298.23% to 1.35, Taysha Gene Therapies Inc (NASDAQ:TSHA) which was up 188.23% to settle at 2.13 and Powerbridge Technologies Co Ltd (NASDAQ:PBTS) which gained 70.18% to close at 0.28.
The worst performers were China Liberal Education Holdings (NASDAQ:CLEU) which was down 69.32% to 0.77 in late trade, BioXcel Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:BTAI) which lost 41.49% to settle at 4.33 and Aurora Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:AURC) which was down 35.28% to 22.97 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1720 to 1219 and 88 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2082 fell and 1448 advanced, while 109 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 0.13% to 14.82.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.36% or 6.95 to $1,939.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.73% or 0.61 to hit $82.58 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.59% or 0.51 to trade at $86.30 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.36% to 1.09, while USD/JPY rose 0.36% to 145.48.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.34% at 103.04.
