Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Technology, Utilities and Basic Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.01%, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.70%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 1.10%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which rose 2.13% or 0.64 points to trade at 30.72 at the close. JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:JPM) added 1.92% or 3.79 points to end at 200.71 and Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) was up 1.66% or 3.10 points to 189.98 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM), which lost 2.25% or 6.28 points to trade at 272.29 in late trade. Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) declined 1.82% or 2.73 points to end at 146.97 and UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH) shed 1.68% or 8.66 points to 508.17.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Deckers Outdoor Corporation (NYSE:DECK) which rose 14.23% to 1,033.36, First Solar Inc (NASDAQ:FSLR) which was up 10.78% to settle at 276.74 and Ross Stores Inc (NASDAQ:ROST) which gained 7.79% to close at 142.13.
The worst performers were Intuit Inc (NASDAQ:INTU) which was down 8.35% to 606.99 in late trade, Dayforce Inc (NYSE:DAY) which lost 7.60% to settle at 56.18 and Elevance Health Inc (NYSE:ELV) which was down 4.18% to 521.22 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Innovative Eyewear Inc (NASDAQ:LUCY) which rose 428.49% to 0.98, Akanda Corp (NASDAQ:AKAN) which was up 71.97% to settle at 4.11 and Onemednet Corp (NASDAQ:ONMD) which gained 56.46% to close at 2.30.
The worst performers were Verastem Inc (NASDAQ:VSTM) which was down 66.17% to 4.12 in late trade, Sensei Biotherapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:SNSE) which lost 45.89% to settle at 0.79 and Genelux Corp (NASDAQ:GNLX) which was down 43.04% to 2.62 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2004 to 826 and 63 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2045 rose and 1293 declined, while 140 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 6.58% to 11.93.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.08% or 1.85 to $2,335.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 1.12% or 0.86 to hit $77.73 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.95% or 0.77 to trade at $82.13 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.32% to 1.08, while USD/JPY unchanged 0.00% to 156.93.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.37% at 104.64.
