EQUITIES
NEW YORK - Major Wall Street indexes gave up a 1-percent rally to end lower on Thursday after the Federal Reserve cited concerns about global economic growth in its decision to hold off on raising interest rates.
The Dow Jones industrial average .DJI fell 65.21 points, or 0.39 percent, to 16,674.74, the S&P 500 .SPX lost 5.11 points, or 0.26 percent, to 1,990.2 and the Nasdaq Composite .IXIC added 4.71 points, or 0.1 percent, to 4,893.95.

LONDON - Britain's share market on Thursday gave up some of its gains from the previous session, with engineering companies such as Smiths Group SMIN.L and Weir Group WEIR.L falling on concerns about peer Rotork's ROR.L outlook.
The FTSE 100 index .FTSE was down 0.7 percent at 6,186.99 points at its close. It gained 1.5 percent in the previous session, when it set a one-week high.

TOKYO - Japanese stocks rose for a third consecutive day on Thursday, buoyed by continued gains on Wall Street and calm markets in China ahead of the much anticipated outcome of the U.S. Federal Reserve's policy meeting.
The Nikkei share average .N225 rose 1.4 percent to 18,432.27, its highest point since September 9.

SYDNEY - Australian shares are set to open with a cautious tone tracking a disappointing performance on Wall Street after the U.S. Federal Reserve held off raising interest rates citing concerns about global economic growth.
Local share price index futures YAPcm1 fell 1 point to 5,106 points, a 40.8 point discount to the underlying S&P200 index.
The benchmark rose 47.9 points to 5,146.8 on Thursday.
Investors will be watching Reserve Bank of Australia Governor, Glenn Stevens who will be testifying before parliament this morning.

FOREIGN EXCHANGE
NEW YORK - The dollar slumped on Thursday after the U.S. Federal Reserve held interest rates steady amid a slew of global challenges, and lowered its long-term outlook for the American economy.
In mid afternoon trading, the euro rose to three-week highs of $1.1420 EUR= and was last at $1.1387, up 0.9 percent. Against the yen, the dollar fell 0.3 percent to 120.20 JPY= .

NEW YORK - U.S. Treasury yields fell on Thursday, with two-year yields declining the most in one-day in six and a half years, after the Federal Reserve kept rates unchanged after its two-day policy meeting.
U.S. 30-year Treasury bonds US30YT=RR were last up 1-16/32 in price to yield 3.01 percent, from a yield of 3.09 percent late Wednesday. Benchmark 10-year Treasury notes US10YT=RR were last up 29/32 in price to yield 2.20 percent, from a yield of 2.30 percent late Wednesday.

GOLD
NEW YORK - Gold rose to a two-week high on Thursday after the Federal Reserve said it held U.S. interest rates steady following a two-day policy meeting, sending the dollar index .DXY to a three-week low.
Spot gold XAU= was up 0.8 percent at $1,127.80 an ounce, after rising to $1,130.35, the highest since Sept. 3. It rose 1.3 percent on Wednesday in its biggest daily jump since Aug. 20, helped by data showing U.S. consumer prices unexpectedly fell in August.

BASE METALS
LONDON - Copper hit nearly two-month highs on Thursday after a massive earthquake in top producer Chile but then retreated as reports showed little damage to mines so far.
Three-month copper CMCU3 on the London Metal Exchange closed up 0.4 percent at $5,400 a tonne after hitting its highest since July 22 at $5,440.50 following initial reports of the Chile quake.

NEW YORK - Global oil futures fell Thursday, resuming their slide after a brief spike following the Federal Reserve's announcement that it would leave U.S. interest rates unchanged.
Brent crude for November delivery LCOc1 fell 67 cents to settle at $49.08 a barrel.
