Investing.com – Russia equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Telecoms, Power and Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Moscow, the MICEX fell 1.64%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the MICEX were SG mechel (MCX:MTLR), which rose 2.44% or 4.15 points to trade at 174.20 at the close. AK Transneft OAO Pref (MCX:TRNF_p) added 2.37% or 4500 points to end at 194500 and Megion (MCX:MFGS) was up 1.76% or 10.0 points to 577.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included AFK Sistema (MCX:AFKS), which lost 36.92% or 8.230 points to trade at 14.060 in late trade. MTS (MCX:MTSS) declined 10.40% or 28.70 points to end at 247.30 and Lukoil (MCX:LKOH) shed 3.28% or 94.0 points to 2770.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 145 to 62 and 20 ended unchanged on the Moscow Stock Exchange.
The Russian VIX, which measures the implied volatility of MICEX options, was up 0.67% to 25.670.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.55% or 6.94 to $1250.06 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.29% or 0.14 to hit $47.52 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.02% or 0.01 to trade at $50.45 a barrel.
USD/RUB was up 0.47% to 57.2790, while EUR/RUB rose 0.58% to 62.538.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.16% at 98.94.
