Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Capital Goods and Metals sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 1.55% to hit a new 1-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 1.45%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:HROM), which rose 3.19% or 147.10 points to trade at 4,761.00 at the close. Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO) added 1.77% or 17.90 points to end at 1,030.00 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) was up 1.54% or 33.65 points to 2,216.05 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Larsen & Toubro Ltd (NS:LART), which lost 5.65% or 196.90 points to trade at 3,289.95 in late trade. Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN) declined 4.53% or 128.90 points to end at 2,714.40 and Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) shed 4.41% or 27.35 points to 592.95.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which rose 1.48% to 2,214.35, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was up 1.27% to settle at 820.70 and Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which gained 0.54% to close at 1,435.00.
The worst performers were Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which was down 5.56% to 3,291.30 in late trade, Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which lost 4.51% to settle at 2,716.00 and ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was down 3.27% to 426.50 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1882 to 312 and 50 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2786 fell and 898 advanced, while 106 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 6.56% to 18.20 a new 52-week high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.24% or 5.65 to $2,316.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.86% or 0.68 to hit $79.67 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.77% or 0.64 to trade at $84.22 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.05% to 83.51, while EUR/INR fell 0.05% to 89.64.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.09% at 105.53.
