Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the IT, Technology and Fast Moving Consumer Goods sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 1.08% to hit a new 1-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 1.01%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA), which rose 1.47% or 125.35 points to trade at 8,647.15 at the close. Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) added 1.41% or 91.60 points to end at 6,596.25 and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM) was up 0.73% or 12.75 points to 1,750.65 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS), which lost 4.22% or 175.20 points to trade at 3,977.30 in late trade. Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) declined 4.22% or 24.60 points to end at 557.70 and Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) shed 3.54% or 52.75 points to 1,435.70.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which rose 1.20% to 6,580.40, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which was up 0.57% to settle at 1,747.10 and HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which gained 0.26% to close at 1,450.00.
The worst performers were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was down 4.18% to 3,971.50 in late trade, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which lost 3.23% to settle at 1,433.00 and Dr Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which was down 3.22% to 6,136.00 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1584 to 599 and 33 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2447 fell and 1226 advanced, while 107 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.57% to 14.11.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.33% or 7.05 to $2,157.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.34% or 0.28 to hit $81.88 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.38% or 0.33 to trade at $86.56 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.10% to 83.03, while EUR/INR fell 0.15% to 90.02.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.38% at 103.63.
