Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Real Estate, Financials and Basic Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa gained 1.98% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5), which rose 8.63% or 0.65 points to trade at 8.18 at the close. Magazine Luiza SA (SA:MGLU3) added 7.55% or 8.65 points to end at 123.16 and Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3) was up 5.81% or 0.44 points to 8.01 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hypermarcas SA (SA:HYPE3), which lost 2.47% or 0.69 points to trade at 27.25 in late trade. Braskem SA (SA:BRKM5) declined 2.14% or 1.15 points to end at 52.53 and Qualicorp SA (SA:QUAL3) shed 1.40% or 0.28 points to 19.67.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 282 to 133 and 42 ended unchanged on the BM&FBovespa Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 0.49% to 32.54.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.22% or 2.70 to $1247.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.06% or 0.04 to hit $70.34 a barrel, while the September US coffee C contract fell 0.28% or 0.31 to trade at $111.72 .
USD/BRL was up 0.17% to 3.8837, while EUR/BRL rose 0.15% to 4.5320.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.08% at 94.56.
