Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Financials and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 2.59%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Ambev SA (SA:ABEV3), which rose 1.39% or 0.26 points to trade at 19.00 at the close. Raia Drogasil SA (SA:RADL3) added 1.36% or 0.700 points to end at 52.250 and Ultrapar Participacoes SA (SA:UGPA3) was up 1.09% or 0.75 points to 69.67 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Braskem SA (SA:BRKM5), which lost 11.73% or 3.25 points to trade at 24.45 in late trade. Vale SA (SA:VALE3) declined 8.49% or 1.31 points to end at 14.12 and Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) shed 8.37% or 0.18 points to 1.97.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 185 to 100 and 19 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 7.32% to 52.19.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was down 2.27% or 28.40 to $1220.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 4.05% or 1.68 to hit $39.77 a barrel, while the May US coffee C contract fell 2.69% or 3.62 to trade at $131.05 .
USD/BRL was up 0.01% to 3.6831, while EUR/BRL rose 0.00% to 4.1182.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.41% at 96.06.
