Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Technology and Industrials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 2.09% to hit a new 1-month low, while the S&P 500 index fell 1.77%, and the NASDAQ Composite index lost 1.59%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM), which rose 5.09% or 6.96 points to trade at 143.73 at the close. Pfizer Inc (NYSE:PFE) added 0.46% or 0.17 points to end at 37.24 and Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) was up 0.36% or 0.50 points to 138.31 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW), which lost 4.95% or 2.40 points to trade at 46.07 in late trade. Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:V) declined 4.44% or 9.24 points to end at 198.97 and Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) shed 4.43% or 14.36 points to 309.51.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) which rose 7.38% to 2008.72, Colgate-Palmolive Company (NYSE:CL) which was up 6.20% to settle at 73.78 and International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM) which gained 5.09% to close at 143.73.
The worst performers were Broadridge Financial Solutions Inc (NYSE:BR) which was down 7.96% to 119.15 in late trade, LyondellBasell Industries NV (NYSE:LYB) which lost 6.70% to settle at 77.86 and Celanese Corporation (NYSE:CE) which was down 6.07% to 103.50 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were BOQI International Medical Inc (NASDAQ:BIMI) which rose 72.32% to 4.980, Vaxart Inc (NASDAQ:VXRT) which was up 72.11% to settle at 1.2500 and Cps Technologies (NASDAQ:CPSH) which gained 48.00% to close at 1.4300.
The worst performers were Intec Pharma Ltd (NASDAQ:NTEC) which was down 37.35% to 0.2907 in late trade, Endologix Inc (NASDAQ:ELGX) which lost 21.88% to settle at 1.000 and Jiayin Group Inc (NASDAQ:JFIN) which was down 19.14% to 3.00 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2303 to 529 and 71 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2085 fell and 574 advanced, while 62 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 21.63% to 18.84 a new 3-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.33% or 5.20 to $1588.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.00% or 0.52 to hit $51.62 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 1.19% or 0.68 to trade at $56.65 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.57% to 1.1093, while USD/JPY fell 0.52% to 108.39.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.54% at 97.183.
