Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Consumer Services, Technology and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 1.91%, while the S&P 500 index declined 2.14%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 2.55%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG), which fell 0.27% or 0.40 points to trade at 149.33 at the close. Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) fell 0.35% or 0.59 points to end at 167.59 and Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) was down 0.50% or 0.79 points to 156.90 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which lost 4.35% or 1.54 points to trade at 33.84 in late trade. Salesforce.com Inc (NYSE:CRM) declined 3.69% or 6.79 points to end at 176.98 and Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) shed 3.50% or 4.20 points to 115.94.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were The Mosaic Company (NYSE:MOS) which rose 3.44% to 55.36, Albemarle Corp (NYSE:ALB) which was up 2.12% to settle at 275.75 and CF Industries Holdings Inc (NYSE:CF) which gained 2.07% to close at 105.64.
The worst performers were Warner Bros Discovery Inc (NASDAQ:WBD) which was down 7.43% to 12.71 in late trade, Aptiv PLC (NYSE:APTV) which lost 7.28% to settle at 96.22 and CarMax Inc (NYSE:KMX) which was down 6.66% to 89.86 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Bright Minds Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:DRUG) which rose 72.80% to 2.16, Anpac Bio Medical Science Co Ltd (NASDAQ:ANPC) which was up 66.01% to settle at 0.36 and Summit Therapeutics PLC (NASDAQ:SMMT) which gained 48.18% to close at 1.63.
The worst performers were Advanced Emissions Solutions Inc (NASDAQ:ADES) which was down 39.78% to 3.86 in late trade, Pharvaris BV (NASDAQ:PHVS) which lost 34.07% to settle at 12.14 and Golden Sun Education Group Ltd (NASDAQ:GSUN) which was down 30.19% to 35.50 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2581 to 554 and 112 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2896 fell and 877 advanced, while 213 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 15.53% to 23.80.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.84% or 14.75 to $1,748.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.06% or 0.05 to hit $90.49 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.07% or 0.07 to trade at $96.65 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.89% to 0.99, while USD/JPY rose 0.41% to 137.49.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.72% at 108.88.
