Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Utilities, Financials and Consumer Goods sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 1.53%, while the S&P 500 index fell 0.74%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 0.39%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK), which fell 0.01% or 0.01 points to trade at 131.09 at the close. Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) fell 0.40% or 0.63 points to end at 156.94 and Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:V) was down 0.49% or 1.35 points to 274.23 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which lost 7.55% or 14.07 points to trade at 172.21 in late trade. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) declined 4.26% or 1.34 points to end at 30.08 and McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) shed 2.95% or 7.84 points to 257.93.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) which rose 9.32% to 1,037.99, International Paper (NYSE:IP) which was up 6.06% to settle at 44.16 and Ralph Lauren Corp Class A (NYSE:RL) which gained 3.27% to close at 169.57.
The worst performers were Live Nation Entertainment Inc (NYSE:LYV) which was down 7.81% to 93.48 in late trade, Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) which lost 7.55% to settle at 172.21 and Caesars Entertainment Corporation (NASDAQ:CZR) which was down 6.31% to 32.53 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Onemednet Corp (NASDAQ:ONMD) which rose 208.43% to 1.47, Binah Capital Group Inc (NASDAQ:BCG) which was up 78.01% to settle at 7.53 and Ascent Solar Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:ASTI) which gained 63.39% to close at 0.21.
The worst performers were Solowin Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:SWIN) which was down 84.28% to 6.20 in late trade, Visionary Education Technology Holdings Group Inc (NASDAQ:GV) which lost 41.13% to settle at 0.22 and MGO Global Inc (NASDAQ:MGOL) which was down 37.84% to 0.72 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2394 to 481 and 45 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2617 fell and 740 advanced, while 116 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 3.91% to 12.77.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 2.54% or 60.70 to $2,332.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.71% or 0.55 to hit $77.02 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.46% or 0.38 to trade at $81.52 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.07% to 1.08, while USD/JPY rose 0.10% to 156.93.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.13% at 104.97.
