Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Technology, Oil & Gas and Consumer Goods sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 1.05%, while the S&P 500 index declined 1.45%, and the NASDAQ Composite index fell 2.18%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ), which rose 1.40% or 0.53 points to trade at 38.31 at the close. Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) added 0.80% or 0.93 points to end at 116.71 and Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG) was up 0.23% or 0.35 points to 152.19 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which lost 3.95% or 7.75 points to trade at 188.25 in late trade. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) declined 3.21% or 0.86 points to end at 25.97 and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) shed 2.55% or 6.24 points to 238.19.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were FedEx Corporation (NYSE:FDX) which rose 3.35% to 175.69, VF Corporation (NYSE:VFC) which was up 2.95% to settle at 26.21 and Warner Bros Discovery Inc (NASDAQ:WBD) which gained 2.10% to close at 9.23.
The worst performers were Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) which was down 8.88% to 125.35 in late trade, Lam Research Corp (NASDAQ:LRCX) which lost 8.65% to settle at 409.11 and Applied Materials Inc (NASDAQ:AMAT) which was down 7.84% to 97.60 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were IsoPlexis Corp (NASDAQ:ISO) which rose 102.87% to 1.40, E-Home Household Service Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:EJH) which was up 91.76% to settle at 1.35 and Core Scientific Inc (NASDAQ:CORZ) which gained 72.94% to close at 0.09.
The worst performers were Akso Health Group DRC (NASDAQ:AHG) which was unchanged 0.00% to 0.39 in late trade, Dragonfly Energy Holdings Corp (NASDAQ:DFLI) which lost 40.75% to settle at 14.86 and Pacifico Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:CACO) which was down 35.06% to 1.13 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2372 to 726 and 101 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2435 fell and 1261 advanced, while 188 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 9.47% to 21.97.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 1.41% or 25.75 to $1,799.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.03% or 0.02 to hit $78.27 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.56% or 0.46 to trade at $81.74 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.09% to 1.06, while USD/JPY fell 0.08% to 132.36.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.25% at 104.11.
