Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Consumer Services and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.58%, while the S&P 500 index declined 0.21%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 0.46%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Pfizer Inc (NYSE:PFE), which rose 2.06% or 0.77 points to trade at 38.18 at the close. Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) added 1.92% or 1.49 points to end at 79.04 and Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG) was up 1.91% or 2.17 points to 116.06 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS), which lost 4.03% or 8.44 points to trade at 201.22 in late trade. Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) declined 3.93% or 4.78 points to end at 116.75 and Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) shed 3.23% or 3.03 points to 90.87.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Dollar Tree Inc (NASDAQ:DLTR) which rose 11.55% to 97.64, Alexion Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:ALXN) which was up 7.80% to settle at 114.42 and Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:REGN) which gained 6.29% to close at 578.21.
The worst performers were HP Inc (NYSE:HPQ) which was down 12.32% to 15.01 in late trade, Kohls Corp (NYSE:KSS) which lost 9.74% to settle at 20.12 and Hanesbrands Inc (NYSE:HBI) which was down 9.65% to 10.21 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were ARCA Biopharma Inc (NASDAQ:ABIO) which rose 386.33% to 19.21, Hexindai Inc (NASDAQ:HX) which was up 170.83% to settle at 1.3000 and Hudson Capital Inc (NASDAQ:HUSN) which gained 70.77% to close at 0.700.
The worst performers were GreenPro Capital Corp (NASDAQ:GRNQ) which was down 35.27% to 1.6700 in late trade, China Jo-Jo Drugstores Inc (NASDAQ:CJJD) which lost 24.78% to settle at 2.520 and Luckin Coffee (NASDAQ:LK) which was down 20.46% to 2.06 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1721 to 1165 and 56 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1857 fell and 794 advanced, while 73 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 3.51% to 28.59.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.40% or 6.80 to $1717.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 2.53% or 0.83 to hit $33.64 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.22% or 0.08 to trade at $36.13 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.00% to 1.1076, while USD/JPY unchanged 0.00% to 107.63.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.59% at 98.470.
