Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Healthcare and Technology sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.43%, while the S&P 500 index fell 0.16%, and the NASDAQ Composite index lost 0.14%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT), which rose 1.37% or 1.59 points to trade at 117.44 at the close. Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG) added 1.22% or 1.51 points to end at 124.96 and American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) was up 0.92% or 1.22 points to 134.46 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO), which lost 5.23% or 2.61 points to trade at 47.32 in late trade. Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW) declined 2.09% or 1.03 points to end at 48.30 and Pfizer Inc (NYSE:PFE) shed 2.15% or 0.81 points to 36.93.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Equifax Inc (NYSE:EFX) which rose 5.01% to 162.26, Iron Mountain Incorporated (NYSE:IRM) which was up 4.94% to settle at 33.36 and Fidelity National Information Services Inc (NYSE:FIS) which gained 4.30% to close at 154.32.
The worst performers were NetApp Inc (NASDAQ:NTAP) which was down 9.27% to 55.18 in late trade, CenturyLink Inc (NYSE:CTL) which lost 8.44% to settle at 13.88 and Kraft Heinz Co (NASDAQ:KHC) which was down 7.56% to 27.77 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Genprex Inc (NASDAQ:GNPX) which rose 51.38% to 2.7400, Atlas Financial Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:AFH) which was up 37.66% to settle at 0.6551 and Lianluo Smart Ltd (NASDAQ:LLIT) which gained 28.52% to close at 0.9500.
The worst performers were XBiotech Inc (NASDAQ:XBIT) which was down 24.17% to 16.53 in late trade, Greenland Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:GTEC) which lost 23.08% to settle at 2.50 and Gemphire Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:NRBO) which was down 21.67% to 23.50 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1472 to 1322 and 81 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1341 rose and 1315 declined, while 63 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 2.98% to 14.15.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.47% or 7.35 to $1578.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.70% or 0.36 to hit $51.53 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to trade at $56.45 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.01% to 1.0838, while USD/JPY rose 0.00% to 109.81.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.08% at 99.002.
