Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Technology, Consumer Services and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.32%, while the S&P 500 index lost 0.37%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 0.68%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA), which rose 2.03% or 0.65 points to trade at 32.67 at the close. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) added 1.54% or 0.55 points to end at 36.37 and Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:V) was up 1.21% or 2.74 points to 228.91 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS), which lost 1.74% or 1.62 points to trade at 91.32 in late trade. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) declined 1.66% or 5.77 points to end at 342.33 and UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH) shed 1.59% or 7.40 points to 458.49.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Ball Corporation (NYSE:BALL) which rose 7.23% to 58.43, Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW) which was up 5.94% to settle at 35.85 and DISH Network Corporation (NASDAQ:DISH) which gained 3.69% to close at 6.47.
The worst performers were Alexandria Real Estate Equities Inc (NYSE:ARE) which was down 4.70% to 115.45 in late trade, Humana Inc (NYSE:HUM) which lost 3.92% to settle at 445.65 and EPAM Systems Inc (NYSE:EPAM) which was down 3.62% to 219.59 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Scworx Corp (NASDAQ:WORX) which rose 75.67% to 0.66, Oncorus Inc (NASDAQ:ONCR) which was up 69.85% to settle at 0.13 and Bitdeer Technologies Group (NASDAQ:BTDR) which gained 50.93% to close at 11.41.
The worst performers were Panbela Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:PBLA) which was down 55.25% to 2.60 in late trade, Applied UV Inc (NASDAQ:AUVI) which lost 43.68% to settle at 1.07 and Universe Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:UPC) which was down 37.35% to 0.52 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1759 to 1187 and 90 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2106 fell and 1454 advanced, while 131 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 6.62% to 13.54 a new 3-year low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.07% or 1.35 to $1,969.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 1.47% or 1.04 to hit $71.66 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 1.14% or 0.86 to trade at $76.53 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.05% to 1.09, while USD/JPY rose 1.12% to 141.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.16% at 101.88.
