Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Telecoms, Oil & Gas and Consumer Services sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.23%, while the S&P 500 index declined 0.40%, and the NASDAQ Composite index fell 0.64%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Wal-Mart Stores Inc (NYSE:WMT), which rose 1.38% or 1.21 points to trade at 88.65 at the close. Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) added 1.13% or 0.60 points to end at 53.66 and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) was up 0.99% or 0.40 points to 40.83 in late trade.
Biggest losers included General Electric Company (NYSE:GE), which lost 6.34% or 1.51 points to trade at 22.32 in late trade. McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) declined 1.78% or 2.96 points to end at 163.34 and International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM) shed 1.55% or 2.52 points to 159.55.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Seagate Technology PLC (NASDAQ:STX) which rose 12.62% to 39.35, VF Corporation (NYSE:VFC) which was up 5.38% to settle at 69.95 and DaVita HealthCare Partners Inc (NYSE:DVA) which gained 2.78% to close at 61.00.
The worst performers were Arconic Inc (NYSE:ARNC) which was down 10.38% to 24.35 in late trade, Hasbro Inc (NASDAQ:HAS) which lost 8.60% to settle at 89.75 and General Electric Company (NYSE:GE) which was down 6.34% to 22.32 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were SenesTech Inc (NASDAQ:SNES) which rose 84.81% to 2.92, Exactech Inc (NASDAQ:EXAC) which was up 30.78% to settle at 41.85 and Atossa Genetics Inc (NASDAQ:ATOS) which gained 29.17% to close at 0.6200.
The worst performers were DBV Technologies (NASDAQ:DBVT) which was down 41.09% to 28.32 in late trade, Connecture Inc (NASDAQ:CNXR) which lost 40.80% to settle at 0.290 and Helios and Matheson Analytics Inc (NASDAQ:HMNY) which was down 18.30% to 13.300 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2060 to 1020 and 137 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1708 fell and 791 advanced, while 134 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 9.63% to 10.93.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.22% or 2.76 to $1283.26 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.14% or 0.07 to hit $51.91 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.66% or 0.38 to trade at $57.37 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.31% to 1.1747, while USD/JPY fell 0.11% to 113.40.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.18% at 93.74.
