Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Technology, Consumer Services and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.18%, while the S&P 500 index lost 0.20%, and the NASDAQ Composite index fell 0.59%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:TRV), which rose 1.70% or 2.93 points to trade at 175.03 at the close. Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) added 1.42% or 0.52 points to end at 37.25 and Coca-Cola Co (NYSE:KO) was up 1.10% or 0.63 points to 58.03 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which lost 2.46% or 1.10 points to trade at 43.64 in late trade. Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) declined 1.31% or 4.45 points to end at 335.00 and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) shed 1.16% or 4.37 points to 373.07.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Agilent Technologies Inc (NYSE:A) which rose 8.70% to 123.90, Waters Corporation (NYSE:WAT) which was up 5.28% to settle at 274.71 and Medtronic PLC (NYSE:MDT) which gained 4.68% to close at 78.68.
The worst performers were Jacobs Engineering Group Inc (NYSE:J) which was down 8.70% to 125.06 in late trade, NRG Energy Inc (NYSE:NRG) which lost 4.43% to settle at 45.20 and Zions Bancorporation (NASDAQ:ZION) which was down 4.11% to 34.31 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Anghami De Inc (NASDAQ:ANGH) which rose 96.84% to 3.11, Mountain Crest Acquisition Corp IV (NASDAQ:MCAF) which was up 62.67% to settle at 10.59 and Marpai Inc (NASDAQ:MRAI) which gained 59.34% to close at 1.45.
The worst performers were LogicMark Inc (NASDAQ:LGMK) which was down 45.87% to 1.18 in late trade, Connect Biopharma Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:CNTB) which lost 38.84% to settle at 1.26 and reAlpha Tech Corp (NASDAQ:AIRE) which was down 38.66% to 4.41 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1888 to 1010 and 85 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2474 fell and 1025 advanced, while 96 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 0.45% to 13.35 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.99% or 19.65 to $1,999.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.04% or 0.03 to hit $77.80 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.17% or 0.14 to trade at $82.46 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.24% to 1.09, while USD/JPY rose 0.02% to 148.38.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.16% at 103.48.
