Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Industrials, Basic Materials and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.10%, while the S&P 500 index lost 0.21%, and the NASDAQ Composite index lost 0.26%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT), which rose 6.99% or 4.18 points to trade at 64.01 at the close. 3M Company (NYSE:MMM) added 3.58% or 3.62 points to end at 104.86 and Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) was up 3.37% or 5.97 points to 182.96 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO), which lost 2.68% or 1.33 points to trade at 48.34 in late trade. Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT) declined 2.59% or 9.32 points to end at 350.72 and Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) shed 1.70% or 5.94 points to 342.73.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT) which rose 6.99% to 64.01, Chubb Ltd (NYSE:CB) which was up 4.71% to settle at 264.88 and Dollar General Corporation (NYSE:DG) which gained 3.92% to close at 146.59.
The worst performers were Martin Marietta Materials Inc (NYSE:MLM) which was down 5.06% to 581.69 in late trade, Super Micro Computer Inc (NASDAQ:SMCI) which lost 5.04% to settle at 904.40 and Deere & Company (NYSE:DE) which was down 4.73% to 394.43 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Dermata Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:DRMA) which rose 1,475.76% to 5.20, Crown Electrokinetics Corp. (NASDAQ:CRKN) which was up 419.48% to settle at 0.24 and Lucy Scientific Discovery Inc Unit (NASDAQ:LSDI) which gained 200.21% to close at 1.59.
The worst performers were Siyata Mobile Inc (NASDAQ:SYTA) which was down 26.59% to 2.54 in late trade, Rekor Systems Inc (NASDAQ:REKR) which lost 24.18% to settle at 1.38 and Eyenovia Inc (NASDAQ:EYEN) which was down 22.56% to 0.82 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1530 to 1311 and 84 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1722 fell and 1626 advanced, while 148 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 0.24% to 12.42 a new 3-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.55% or 13.20 to $2,381.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.90% or 0.71 to hit $79.34 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.74% or 0.61 to trade at $83.36 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.14% to 1.09, while USD/JPY rose 0.35% to 155.40.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.18% at 104.39.
