Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Healthcare, Consumer Services and Consumer Goods sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.06%, while the S&P 500 index declined 0.18%, and the NASDAQ Composite index lost 0.16%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Wal-Mart Stores Inc (NYSE:WMT), which rose 1.94% or 1.53 points to trade at 80.53 at the close. DowDuPont Inc (NYSE:DWDP) added 0.65% or 0.46 points to end at 71.68 and International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM) was up 0.62% or 0.91 points to 147.39 in late trade.
Biggest losers included General Electric Company (NYSE:GE), which lost 3.94% or 0.96 points to trade at 23.43 in late trade. Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) declined 1.72% or 0.90 points to end at 51.52 and Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) shed 1.31% or 3.22 points to 242.80.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Micron Technology Inc (NASDAQ:MU) which rose 3.25% to 40.96, Frontier Communications Corp (NASDAQ:FTR) which was up 2.70% to settle at 12.53 and NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) which gained 2.26% to close at 185.39.
The worst performers were DaVita HealthCare Partners Inc (NYSE:DVA) which was down 9.91% to 53.89 in late trade, Viacom B Inc (NASDAQ:VIAB) which lost 6.37% to settle at 25.42 and Express Scripts Holding Co (NASDAQ:ESRX) which was down 5.04% to 59.22 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Cleantech Solutions International Inc (NASDAQ:CLNT) which rose 96.39% to 6.520, Neothetics Inc (NASDAQ:NEOT) which was up 47.61% to settle at 0.68 and Repros Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:RPRX) which gained 41.51% to close at 0.75.
The worst performers were LiNiu Technology Group (NASDAQ:LINU) which was down 34.47% to 1.540 in late trade, Yulong Eco-Materials Ltd (NASDAQ:YECO) which lost 33.30% to settle at 0.600 and Tandem Dtes Care (NASDAQ:TNDM) which was down 29.13% to 0.58 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1707 to 1338 and 153 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1502 fell and 985 advanced, while 144 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 7.56% to 10.38.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.94% or 11.95 to $1286.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.47% or 0.23 to hit $49.52 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.05% or 0.03 to trade at $55.65 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.14% to 1.1748, while USD/JPY unchanged 0.00% to 112.62.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 93.51.
