Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Technology, Consumer Goods and Healthcare sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.04%, while the S&P 500 index declined 0.45%, and the NASDAQ Composite index fell 1.16%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD), which rose 2.35% or 7.08 points to trade at 307.89 at the close. Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) added 2.03% or 2.22 points to end at 111.74 and Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) was up 1.76% or 2.66 points to 154.01 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT), which lost 1.92% or 6.42 points to trade at 328.60 in late trade. Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:V) declined 1.42% or 3.25 points to end at 226.30 and Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) shed 1.33% or 1.52 points to 113.08.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Boston Properties Inc (NYSE:BXP) which rose 9.88% to 56.59, Alexandria Real Estate Equities Inc (NYSE:ARE) which was up 4.98% to settle at 114.51 and Newell Brands Inc (NASDAQ:NWL) which gained 4.71% to close at 8.22.
The worst performers were Carnival Corporation (NYSE:CCL) which was down 7.66% to 14.59 in late trade, Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) which lost 6.06% to settle at 241.05 and CarMax Inc (NYSE:KMX) which was down 5.75% to 81.25 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Trxade Group Inc (NASDAQ:MEDS) which rose 93.84% to 16.36, Benitec Biopharma Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:BNTC) which was up 80.90% to settle at 0.36 and MoonLake Immunotherapeutics (NASDAQ:MLTX) which gained 77.55% to close at 45.95.
The worst performers were Avalo Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:AVTX) which was down 88.69% to 0.50 in late trade, FibroGen Inc (NASDAQ:FGEN) which lost 83.12% to settle at 2.71 and C3is Inc (NASDAQ:CISS) which was down 29.66% to 1.85 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1945 to 1035 and 95 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1997 fell and 1547 advanced, while 154 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 6.03% to 14.25.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.16% or 3.00 to $1,932.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.62% or 0.43 to hit $69.59 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.70% or 0.52 to trade at $74.53 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.16% to 1.09, while USD/JPY fell 0.12% to 143.51.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.14% at 102.40.
