Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Financials, Oil & Gas and Basic Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 1.90%, while the S&P 500 index added 1.31%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 1.01%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which rose 11.48% or 19.51 points to trade at 189.51 at the close. Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW) added 5.02% or 1.97 points to end at 41.23 and Raytheon Technologies Corp (NYSE:RTX) was up 4.01% or 2.52 points to 65.37 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT), which lost 1.96% or 2.35 points to trade at 117.74 in late trade. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) declined 0.62% or 0.37 points to end at 59.33 and Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) shed 0.57% or 0.44 points to 76.30.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were United Airlines Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:UAL) which rose 19.03% to 39.66, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd (NYSE:NCLH) which was up 18.84% to settle at 20.50 and American Airlines Group (NASDAQ:AAL) which gained 16.41% to close at 16.74.
The worst performers were PVH Corp (NYSE:PVH) which was down 5.90% to 49.61 in late trade, ONEOK Inc (NYSE:OKE) which lost 3.51% to settle at 34.09 and Dollar General Corporation (NYSE:DG) which was down 2.27% to 184.00 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were JAKKS Pacific Inc (NASDAQ:JAKK) which rose 80.81% to 1.1400, Net Element Inc (NASDAQ:NETE) which was up 77.61% to settle at 4.60 and Arts-Way Manufacturing Co Inc (NASDAQ:ARTW) which gained 55.61% to close at 3.050.
The worst performers were IZEA Inc (NASDAQ:IZEA) which was down 39.01% to 1.7200 in late trade, Tarena Intl Adr (NASDAQ:TEDU) which lost 28.15% to settle at 1.940 and Wins Finance Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:WINS) which was down 28.02% to 35.99 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2345 to 547 and 34 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2015 rose and 672 declined, while 44 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 11.52% to 36.09.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.13% or 2.20 to $1737.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.39% or 0.14 to hit $36.48 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 1.04% or 0.40 to trade at $38.95 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.36% to 1.1256, while USD/JPY rose 0.47% to 107.36.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.35% at 97.073.
