Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Telecoms, Healthcare and Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 1.34% to hit a new 1-month high, while the S&P 500 index climbed 1.19%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 0.86%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN), which rose 3.72% or 9.38 points to trade at 261.32 at the close. Coca-Cola Co (NYSE:KO) added 2.88% or 1.61 points to end at 57.57 and Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) was up 2.81% or 7.73 points to 283.26 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE), which lost 0.55% or 0.49 points to trade at 88.01 in late trade. Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) declined 0.31% or 0.32 points to end at 101.72 and Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) shed 0.03% or 0.06 points to 173.13.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were HCA Holdings Inc (NYSE:HCA) which rose 7.02% to 210.47, Tractor Supply Company (NASDAQ:TSCO) which was up 5.30% to settle at 207.83 and Regions Financial Corporation (NYSE:RF) which gained 5.28% to close at 20.55.
The worst performers were Las Vegas Sands Corp (NYSE:LVS) which was down 10.29% to 35.05 in late trade, Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ:SBUX) which lost 5.47% to settle at 83.76 and Wynn Resorts Limited (NASDAQ:WYNN) which was down 3.86% to 56.53 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Applied Genetic (NASDAQ:AGTC) which rose 62.43% to 0.39, Vaxcyte Inc (NASDAQ:PCVX) which was up 60.35% to settle at 33.00 and Mullen Automotive Inc (NASDAQ:MULN) which gained 32.94% to close at 0.50.
The worst performers were Tricida Inc (NASDAQ:TCDA) which was down 94.48% to 0.60 in late trade, Alfi Inc (NASDAQ:ALF) which lost 54.32% to settle at 0.11 and Huadi International Group Co Ltd (NASDAQ:HUDI) which was down 43.99% to 33.00 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1775 to 1333 and 127 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1927 rose and 1824 declined, while 255 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 0.54% to 29.85.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.17% or 2.75 to $1,653.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.26% or 0.22 to hit $84.83 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.11% or 0.10 to trade at $91.44 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.14% to 0.99, while USD/JPY rose 0.97% to 149.07.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 111.93.
