Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Industrials and Basic Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1.29% to hit a new all time high, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.89%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 0.55%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which rose 7.56% or 14.14 points to trade at 201.25 at the close. Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) added 7.00% or 5.81 points to end at 88.84 and Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) was up 4.42% or 6.12 points to 144.48 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG), which lost 1.92% or 2.77 points to trade at 141.51 in late trade. Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) declined 1.52% or 1.23 points to end at 79.86 and Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN) shed 0.41% or 0.98 points to 236.38.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Nordstrom Inc (NYSE:JWN) which rose 12.77% to 19.52, TechnipFMC PLC (NYSE:FTI) which was up 11.08% to settle at 8.12 and Schlumberger NV (NYSE:SLB) which gained 10.33% to close at 19.86.
The worst performers were Illumina Inc (NASDAQ:ILMN) which was down 3.76% to 297.25 in late trade, Pfizer Inc (NYSE:PFE) which lost 3.63% to settle at 37.22 and FirstEnergy Corporation (NYSE:FE) which was down 3.49% to 28.48 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Alterity Therapeutics Ltd (NASDAQ:ATHE) which rose 151.30% to 2.8900, CBAK Energy Technology Inc (NASDAQ:CBAT) which was up 52.85% to settle at 9.4000 and Westwater Resources Inc (NASDAQ:WWR) which gained 48.57% to close at 6.240.
The worst performers were Hall of Fame Resort Entertainment Co (NASDAQ:HOFV) which was down 54.02% to 1.15 in late trade, RAPT Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:RAPT) which lost 44.27% to settle at 16.98 and Gulfport Energy Corporation (NASDAQ:GPOR) which was down 43.72% to 0.135 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2388 to 566 and 53 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1951 rose and 857 declined, while 71 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 0.09% to 23.08 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.07% or 1.35 to $1884.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 3.19% or 1.28 to hit $41.41 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 2.59% or 1.11 to trade at $43.89 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.11% to 1.1845, while USD/JPY fell 0.03% to 104.58.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.13% at 92.627.
