Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Technology, Consumer Services and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1.18% to hit a new all time high, while the S&P 500 index gained 2.11%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 2.96%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM), which rose 3.52% or 9.99 points to trade at 293.54 at the close. International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM) added 2.53% or 4.54 points to end at 184.24 and Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:V) was up 2.48% or 6.85 points to 283.61 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which lost 1.13% or 0.49 points to trade at 42.98 in late trade. Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) declined 0.94% or 0.38 points to end at 40.72 and Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA) shed 0.83% or 0.18 points to 21.57.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) which rose 16.40% to 785.38, Moderna Inc (NASDAQ:MRNA) which was up 13.53% to settle at 99.44 and Advanced Micro Devices Inc (NASDAQ:AMD) which gained 10.69% to close at 181.86.
The worst performers were Etsy Inc (NASDAQ:ETSY) which was down 8.44% to 70.62 in late trade, Newmont Goldcorp Corp (NYSE:NEM) which lost 7.57% to settle at 30.90 and Teleflex Incorporated (NYSE:TFX) which was down 5.28% to 237.70 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Monopar Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:MNPR) which rose 96.49% to 1.12, LA Rosa Holdings Corp (NASDAQ:LRHC) which was up 95.71% to settle at 2.74 and Dogness International Corp Class A (NASDAQ:DOGZ) which gained 64.08% to close at 6.76.
The worst performers were Draganfly Inc (NASDAQ:DPRO) which was down 52.78% to 0.17 in late trade, Greenbrook TMS Inc (NASDAQ:GBNH) which lost 46.69% to settle at 0.20 and Synaptogenix Inc (NASDAQ:SNPX) which was down 29.45% to 0.19 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1710 to 1162 and 73 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1740 fell and 1676 advanced, while 116 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 5.22% to 14.54.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.02% or 0.35 to $2,034.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.71% or 0.55 to hit $78.46 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.64% or 0.53 to trade at $83.56 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.05% to 1.08, while USD/JPY rose 0.16% to 150.51.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 103.87.
