Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Technology and Consumer Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.96%, while the S&P 500 index gained 1.21%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 1.35%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO), which rose 3.28% or 1.54 points to trade at 48.50 at the close. Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW) added 2.45% or 1.09 points to end at 45.60 and Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA) was up 2.27% or 1.14 points to 51.16 in late trade.
Biggest losers included UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH), which lost 0.44% or 1.08 points to trade at 244.61 in late trade. American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) declined 0.22% or 0.28 points to end at 124.35 and Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) gained 0.04% or 0.06 points to 135.26.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Estee Lauder Companies Inc (NYSE:EL) which rose 12.58% to 201.76, NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) which was up 7.03% to settle at 170.78 and Wynn Resorts Limited (NASDAQ:WYNN) which gained 6.50% to close at 112.41.
The worst performers were Alliance Data Systems Corp (NYSE:ADS) which was down 1.54% to 136.55 in late trade, DaVita HealthCare Partners Inc (NYSE:DVA) which lost 1.45% to settle at 56.98 and General Electric Company (NYSE:GE) which was down 1.42% to 8.66 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Miragen Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:MGEN) which rose 49.45% to 1.3600, Trovagene Inc (NASDAQ:TROV) which was up 43.54% to settle at 3.000 and Industrial Services of America Inc (NASDAQ:IDSA) which gained 43.84% to close at 1.050.
The worst performers were Plus Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:PSTV) which was down 37.67% to 9.0000 in late trade, Diversicare Healthcare Services Inc (NASDAQ:DVCR) which lost 12.93% to settle at 2.56 and SINTX Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:SINT) which was down 17.10% to 1.600 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2212 to 797 and 24 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1891 rose and 791 declined, while 69 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 8.61% to 16.88.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 1.16% or 17.70 to $1505.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 2.39% or 1.31 to hit $56.12 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.05% or 0.03 to trade at $59.74 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.04% to 1.1080, while USD/JPY fell 0.00% to 106.61.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.25% at 98.250.
