Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Basic Materials and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.79%, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.86%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 0.73%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO), which rose 3.14% or 1.39 points to trade at 45.67 at the close. JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:JPM) added 2.86% or 3.84 points to end at 138.02 and Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW) was up 2.54% or 1.35 points to 54.45 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which lost 1.06% or 3.71 points to trade at 346.29 in late trade. 3M Company (NYSE:MMM) declined 0.11% or 0.18 points to end at 168.56 and Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG) shed 0.07% or 0.09 points to 124.57.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Wynn Resorts Limited (NASDAQ:WYNN) which rose 9.47% to 132.27, Advanced Micro Devices Inc (NASDAQ:AMD) which was up 7.90% to settle at 42.59 and L Brands Inc (NYSE:LB) which gained 6.82% to close at 18.48.
The worst performers were SBA Communications Corp (NASDAQ:SBAC) which was down 3.27% to 228.05 in late trade, Regency Centers Corporation (NASDAQ:REG) which lost 2.92% to settle at 60.82 and Lennar Corporation (NYSE:LEN) which was down 2.78% to 58.06 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Assertio Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:ASRT) which rose 56.65% to 1.23, Lmp Automotive Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:LMPX) which was up 44.67% to settle at 22.25 and Assembly Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:ASMB) which gained 34.44% to close at 23.81.
The worst performers were Sienna Biopharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:SNNA) which was down 34.50% to 0.08 in late trade, CTI Industries Corporation (NASDAQ:CTIB) which lost 33.78% to settle at 0.98 and Ricebran Tech (NASDAQ:RIBT) which was down 33.17% to 1.390 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1777 to 1061 and 78 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1693 rose and 965 declined, while 85 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 7.00% to 13.94.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.06% or 0.90 to $1474.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.78% or 0.46 to hit $59.22 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.25% or 0.16 to trade at $64.53 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.42% to 1.1175, while USD/JPY rose 0.12% to 109.42.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.20% at 97.250.
