Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Technology, Industrials and Consumer Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.70% to hit a new 1-month high, while the S&P 500 index added 0.68%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 1.15%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT), which rose 2.88% or 2.96 points to trade at 105.74 at the close. Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) added 2.84% or 4.73 points to end at 171.25 and Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) was up 2.47% or 9.57 points to 397.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Exxon Mobil Corp (NYSE:XOM), which lost 1.45% or 1.10 points to trade at 74.82 in late trade. Pfizer Inc (NYSE:PFE) declined 1.03% or 0.44 points to end at 42.44 and Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) shed 0.98% or 1.32 points to 132.88.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were KKR & Co LP (F:KR51) which rose 6.42% to 20.72, Clorox Co (NYSE:CLX) which was up 5.69% to settle at 158.38 and Raytheon Company (NYSE:RTN) which gained 5.24% to close at 174.65.
The worst performers were Allergan PLC (NYSE:AGN) which was down 3.85% to 138.53 in late trade, Electronic Arts Inc (NASDAQ:EA) which lost 3.06% to settle at 88.43 and AbbVie Inc (NYSE:ABBV) which was down 2.45% to 78.530 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Cempra Inc (NASDAQ:MLNT) which rose 71.18% to 1.460, Top Image Systems Ltd (NASDAQ:TISA) which was up 55.43% to settle at 0.830 and Maxwell Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:MXWL) which gained 49.51% to close at 4.59.
The worst performers were Check Cap Ltd (NASDAQ:CHEK) which was down 27.62% to 2.490 in late trade, OHR Pharmaceutical Inc (NASDAQ:OHRP) which lost 23.05% to settle at 1.970 and TMSR Holding Company Ltd (NASDAQ:TMSR) which was down 18.84% to 4.48 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2035 to 974 and 115 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1806 rose and 831 declined, while 76 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 2.54% to 15.73 a new 3-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.43% or 5.65 to $1316.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.96% or 0.53 to hit $54.73 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.22% or 0.14 to trade at $62.61 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.15% to 1.1437, while USD/JPY rose 0.41% to 109.92.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.28% at 95.567.
