Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Basic Materials and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.69%, while the S&P 500 index added 0.88%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 1.23%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW), which rose 2.73% or 1.74 points to trade at 65.39 at the close. Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) added 2.42% or 5.23 points to end at 221.73 and Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) was up 2.03% or 3.59 points to 180.15 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT), which lost 0.58% or 0.85 points to trade at 146.50 in late trade. Salesforce.com Inc (NYSE:CRM) declined 0.47% or 1.25 points to end at 266.54 and Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) shed 0.37% or 0.28 points to 76.29.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Helmerich and Payne Inc (NYSE:HP) which rose 9.89% to 27.79, Occidental Petroleum Corporation (NYSE:OXY) which was up 6.88% to settle at 25.65 and Cimarex Energy Co (NYSE:XEC) which gained 6.42% to close at 63.70.
The worst performers were Dollar Tree Inc (NASDAQ:DLTR) which was down 2.78% to 90.88 in late trade, AutoZone Inc (NYSE:AZO) which lost 2.59% to settle at 1547.72 and Advance Auto Parts Inc (NYSE:AAP) which was down 2.43% to 203.74 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Vinco Ventures Inc (NASDAQ:BBIG) which rose 80.55% to 5.290, Gambling.com Group Ltd (NASDAQ:GAMB) which was up 66.82% to settle at 14.18 and NeuroMetrix Inc (NASDAQ:NURO) which gained 65.10% to close at 16.460.
The worst performers were Cassava Sciences Inc (NASDAQ:SAVA) which was down 17.53% to 58.43 in late trade, Pro-Dex Inc (NASDAQ:PDEX) which lost 14.09% to settle at 26.33 and Siyata Mobile Inc (NASDAQ:SYTA) which was down 13.67% to 3.600 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2654 to 563 and 114 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2759 rose and 750 declined, while 120 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 13.00% to 16.39.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.45% or 25.95 to $1821.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.88% or 1.27 to hit $68.69 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 2.05% or 1.44 to trade at $71.62 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.39% to 1.1796, while USD/JPY fell 0.23% to 109.82.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.42% at 92.690.
