Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Technology, Financials and Utilities sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.67%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.87%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 1.11%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS), which rose 3.30% or 13.35 points to trade at 417.35 at the close. JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:JPM) added 1.94% or 3.61 points to end at 189.41 and Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG) was up 1.52% or 2.40 points to 160.54 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ), which lost 4.67% or 1.89 points to trade at 38.60 in late trade. UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH) declined 1.98% or 9.90 points to end at 491.23 and Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) shed 0.55% or 0.62 points to 111.99.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) which rose 6.10% to 12.88, United Airlines Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:UAL) which was up 4.98% to settle at 53.94 and NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) which gained 4.35% to close at 795.18.
The worst performers were Cardinal Health Inc (NYSE:CAH) which was down 4.95% to 102.83 in late trade, Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) which lost 4.67% to settle at 38.60 and Newmont Goldcorp Corp (NYSE:NEM) which was down 4.00% to 37.46 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Matterport Inc (NASDAQ:MTTR) which rose 175.86% to 4.80, AGBA Acquisition Ltd (NASDAQ:AGBA) which was up 100.00% to settle at 2.50 and Moolec Science SA (NASDAQ:MLEC) which gained 78.99% to close at 2.47.
The worst performers were Vaxxinity Inc (NASDAQ:VAXX) which was down 43.37% to 0.27 in late trade, Hepion Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:HEPA) which lost 32.86% to settle at 1.41 and Inhibikase Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:IKT) which was down 32.84% to 1.37 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2041 to 813 and 71 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2030 rose and 1321 declined, while 125 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 9.46% to 16.94.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 2.89% or 69.85 to $2,343.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.11% or 0.09 to hit $82.13 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.11% or 0.10 to trade at $87.19 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.00% to 1.07, while USD/JPY rose 0.13% to 154.84.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 105.95.
