Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Technology and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.52%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.62%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 0.86%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were DowDuPont Inc (NYSE:DWDP), which rose 1.61% or 1.10 points to trade at 69.21 at the close. Visa Inc (NYSE:V) added 1.48% or 2.10 points to end at 144.20 and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) was up 1.45% or 0.68 points to 47.66 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE), which lost 0.55% or 0.46 points to trade at 82.45 in late trade. Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) declined 0.52% or 1.23 points to end at 235.11 and Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT) shed 0.24% or 0.23 points to 94.95.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Autodesk Inc (NASDAQ:ADSK) which rose 15.33% to 157.20, Advanced Micro Devices Inc (NASDAQ:AMD) which was up 7.58% to settle at 23.980 and Netflix Inc (NASDAQ:NFLX) which gained 5.79% to close at 358.82.
The worst performers were Foot Locker Inc (NYSE:FL) which was down 9.17% to 48.32 in late trade, Gap Inc (NYSE:GPS) which lost 8.60% to settle at 29.65 and Macy’s Inc (NYSE:M) which was down 4.25% to 36.51 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Alliance MMA Inc (NASDAQ:AMMA) which rose 110.32% to 0.42, Seven Stars Cloud Group Inc (NASDAQ:SSC) which was up 38.97% to settle at 5.420 and Geron Corporation (NASDAQ:GERN) which gained 28.78% to close at 5.190.
The worst performers were Hibbett Sports Inc (NASDAQ:HIBB) which was down 30.19% to 20.52 in late trade, TMSR Holding Company Ltd (NASDAQ:TMSR) which lost 15.59% to settle at 4.06 and China Biologic Products Inc (NASDAQ:CBPO) which was down 15.85% to 84.91 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2072 to 919 and 161 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1555 rose and 996 declined, while 162 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 3.06% to 12.03.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.54% or 18.40 to $1212.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.11% or 0.75 to hit $68.58 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 1.26% or 0.94 to trade at $75.67 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.72% to 1.1623, while USD/JPY fell 0.09% to 111.20.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.51% at 95.06.
