Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Consumer Services and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.38%, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.11%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 0.03%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were United Technologies Corporation (NYSE:UTX), which rose 1.70% or 2.16 points to trade at 129.51 at the close. Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) added 1.61% or 1.74 points to end at 109.99 and Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) was up 1.39% or 4.80 points to 350.83 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO), which lost 4.13% or 1.80 points to trade at 41.78 in late trade. Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) declined 1.44% or 1.84 points to end at 125.92 and American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) shed 0.66% or 0.67 points to 100.48.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were PACCAR Inc (NASDAQ:PCAR) which rose 2.79% to 63.45, Ulta Beauty Inc (NASDAQ:ULTA) which was up 2.77% to settle at 259.87 and Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ:SBUX) which gained 2.73% to close at 51.62.
The worst performers were Mattel Inc (NASDAQ:MAT) which was down 4.36% to 16.46 in late trade, Netflix Inc (NASDAQ:NFLX) which lost 4.28% to settle at 395.80 and Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO) which was down 4.13% to 41.78 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were ShiftPixy Inc (NASDAQ:PIXY) which rose 68.61% to 4.62, SenesTech Inc (NASDAQ:SNES) which was up 20.74% to settle at 1.63 and Galmed Pharmaceuticals Ltd (NASDAQ:GLMD) which gained 19.34% to close at 15.240.
The worst performers were Auris Medical Holding AG (NASDAQ:EARS) which was down 47.14% to 0.296 in late trade, Izea Inc (NASDAQ:IZEA) which lost 26.17% to settle at 1.8900 and Helios and Matheson Analytics Inc (NASDAQ:HMNY) which was down 18.03% to 0.150 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1549 to 1543 and 44 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1430 fell and 1072 advanced, while 151 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 3.26% to 12.17.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.41% or 5.10 to $1241.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.44% or 0.31 to hit $70.64 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.58% or 0.43 to trade at $74.88 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.11% to 1.1684, while USD/JPY fell 0.18% to 112.32.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 94.46.
