Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Financials, Industrials and Utilities sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.30%, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.33%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 0.28%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA), which rose 1.76% or 0.62 points to trade at 35.94 at the close. The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:TRV) added 1.73% or 2.91 points to end at 171.28 and Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) was up 1.65% or 3.32 points to 205.03 in late trade.
Biggest losers included UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH), which lost 1.26% or 6.44 points to trade at 505.35 in late trade. Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) declined 0.88% or 1.52 points to end at 170.92 and Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN) shed 0.77% or 1.93 points to 248.07.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were M&T Bank Corp (NYSE:MTB) which rose 7.78% to 125.66, Enphase Energy Inc (NASDAQ:ENPH) which was up 7.67% to settle at 224.92 and Digital Realty Trust Inc (NYSE:DLR) which gained 7.15% to close at 96.20.
The worst performers were State Street Corp (NYSE:STT) which was down 9.18% to 72.68 in late trade, Moderna Inc (NASDAQ:MRNA) which lost 8.35% to settle at 143.99 and Signature Bank (OTC:SBNY) which was down 5.85% to 0.16 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Presto Automation Inc (NASDAQ:PRST) which rose 160.43% to 3.62, ContraFect Corp (NASDAQ:CFRX) which was up 154.44% to settle at 2.29 and Blackboxstocks Inc (NASDAQ:BLBX) which gained 107.20% to close at 5.47.
The worst performers were Marpai Inc (NASDAQ:MRAI) which was down 43.32% to 1.06 in late trade, Pear Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:PEAR) which lost 33.61% to settle at 0.05 and Laser Photonics Corp Unit (NASDAQ:LASE) which was down 31.95% to 2.79 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1814 to 1151 and 117 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2293 rose and 1278 declined, while 163 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 0.70% to 16.95 a new 52-week low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.41% or 8.30 to $2,007.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.73% or 1.43 to hit $81.00 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 1.66% or 1.43 to trade at $84.88 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.66% to 1.09, while USD/JPY rose 0.52% to 134.46.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.54% at 101.79.
