Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Technology, Financials and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.22% to hit a new 6-month high, while the S&P 500 index added 0.39%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 0.93%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which rose 3.68% or 1.22 points to trade at 34.37 at the close. JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:JPM) added 2.41% or 3.61 points to end at 153.38 and Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) was up 1.73% or 3.30 points to 193.99 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ), which lost 7.50% or 2.55 points to trade at 31.46 in late trade. Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) declined 3.45% or 3.06 points to end at 85.56 and Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) shed 1.65% or 1.77 points to 105.57.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were First Solar Inc (NASDAQ:FSLR) which rose 8.06% to 206.71, Enphase Energy Inc (NASDAQ:ENPH) which was up 6.59% to settle at 189.67 and Arch Capital Group Ltd (NASDAQ:ACGL) which gained 4.69% to close at 80.61.
The worst performers were Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) which was down 7.50% to 31.46 in late trade, SBA Communications Corp (NASDAQ:SBAC) which lost 7.23% to settle at 226.15 and AT&T Inc (NYSE:T) which was down 6.69% to 13.53 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were ProMIS Neurosciences Inc (NASDAQ:PMN) which rose 120.28% to 6.19, BridgeBio Pharma Inc (NASDAQ:BBIO) which was up 75.85% to settle at 32.04 and Acumen Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:ABOS) which gained 54.78% to close at 9.72.
The worst performers were ViewRay Inc (NASDAQ:VRAY) which was down 81.17% to 0.07 in late trade, Novan Inc (NASDAQ:NOVN) which lost 70.54% to settle at 0.18 and Utime Ltd (NASDAQ:UTME) which was down 60.98% to 0.96 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1729 to 1233 and 106 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2232 rose and 1305 declined, while 139 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 1.05% to 13.48.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.31% or 6.00 to $1,958.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.63% or 1.23 to hit $74.09 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 1.72% or 1.37 to trade at $78.50 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.09% to 1.12, while USD/JPY fell 0.02% to 138.71.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 99.57.
