Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Consumer Services, Oil & Gas and Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.00%, while the S&P 500 index added 0.45%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 0.61%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG), which rose 1.55% or 2.23 points to trade at 146.19 at the close. Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT) added 1.46% or 2.23 points to end at 154.97 and American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) was up 1.27% or 2.30 points to 182.81 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which lost 1.46% or 3.86 points to trade at 260.41 in late trade. 3M Company (NYSE:MMM) declined 1.05% or 1.12 points to end at 105.86 and Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) shed 1.03% or 3.92 points to 376.59.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Etsy Inc (NASDAQ:ETSY) which rose 4.69% to 84.46, Costco Wholesale Corp (NASDAQ:COST) which was up 3.40% to settle at 681.24 and Kroger Company (NYSE:KR) which gained 3.24% to close at 45.54.
The worst performers were VF Corporation (NYSE:VFC) which was down 7.84% to 18.35 in late trade, Paramount Global Class B (NASDAQ:PARA) which lost 4.67% to settle at 15.51 and Archer-Daniels-Midland Company (NYSE:ADM) which was down 4.53% to 72.32 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Jin Medical International Ltd (NASDAQ:ZJYL) which rose 263.69% to 101.87, Panbela Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:PBLA) which was up 120.96% to settle at 1.01 and Invivyd Inc (NASDAQ:IVVD) which gained 120.25% to close at 3.59.
The worst performers were Ebix Inc (NASDAQ:EBIX) which was down 67.55% to 1.60 in late trade, SHENGFENG DEVELOPMENT Ltd (NASDAQ:SFWL) which lost 51.71% to settle at 4.79 and Cara Therapeutic (NASDAQ:CARA) which was down 48.85% to 0.63 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1457 to 1428 and 83 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1923 fell and 1543 advanced, while 109 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 2.28% to 12.56.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.26% or 5.20 to $2,040.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.70% or 1.22 to hit $73.00 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 2.09% or 1.60 to trade at $78.15 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.27% to 1.09, while USD/JPY rose 0.53% to 142.90.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.05% at 102.14.
