Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Power, Public Sector Undertakings and Metals sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 1.51%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 1.23%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were ITC Ltd (NS:ITC), which rose 4.45% or 18.00 points to trade at 422.45 at the close. ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK) added 0.66% or 7.10 points to end at 1,083.95 and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM) was up 0.53% or 9.20 points to 1,729.55 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD), which lost 7.31% or 20.85 points to trade at 264.30 in late trade. Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) declined 7.18% or 32.25 points to end at 417.05 and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) shed 7.05% or 91.75 points to 1,209.55.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which rose 4.39% to 422.00, ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which was up 0.47% to settle at 1,082.00 and Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which gained 0.33% to close at 2,597.70.
The worst performers were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was down 7.03% to 265.00 in late trade, NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which lost 6.68% to settle at 321.80 and Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was down 5.90% to 143.45 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2119 to 90 and 7 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 3389 fell and 375 advanced, while 59 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 5.83% to 14.43.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.00% or 0.05 to $2,166.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 1.34% or 1.04 to hit $78.60 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 1.27% or 1.04 to trade at $82.96 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.06% to 82.84, while EUR/INR rose 0.08% to 90.54.
The US Dollar Index Futures was unchanged 0.00% at 102.54.
