Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Metals, Real Estate and Banking sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 1.15%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 1.18%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD), which rose 2.35% or 4.70 points to trade at 204.80 at the close. Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) added 1.01% or 2.85 points to end at 284.10 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) was up 0.75% or 1.40 points to 188.15 in late trade.
Biggest losers included HDFC Bank Ltd (NS:HDBK), which lost 3.87% or 63.05 points to trade at 1,566.00 in late trade. JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL) declined 2.70% or 21.80 points to end at 787.00 and Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI) shed 2.29% or 55.80 points to 2,380.65.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which rose 2.32% to 204.70, Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which was up 0.61% to settle at 3,225.00 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which gained 0.45% to close at 1,152.80.
The worst performers were HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which was down 4.00% to 1,563.90 in late trade, Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which lost 2.21% to settle at 2,382.10 and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which was down 2.03% to 5,611.05 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1320 to 687 and 60 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2011 fell and 1520 advanced, while 136 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.70% to 11.13.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.02% or 0.45 to $1,953.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.95% or 0.86 to hit $89.62 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.95% or 0.90 to trade at $93.44 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.28% to 83.07, while EUR/INR fell 0.05% to 88.90.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.14% at 104.68.
