Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Public Sector Undertakings and Auto sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.56%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.62%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were UPL Ltd (NS:UPLL), which rose 3.18% or 14.70 points to trade at 476.80 at the close. Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) added 2.13% or 25.40 points to end at 1,220.00 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) was up 1.83% or 116.90 points to 6,514.35 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM), which lost 4.82% or 91.05 points to trade at 1,799.50 in late trade. Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) declined 3.66% or 22.30 points to end at 586.45 and Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) shed 2.85% or 12.20 points to 415.50.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which rose 1.55% to 1,213.85, Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which was up 1.01% to settle at 6,456.75 and Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:BJFS) which gained 0.37% to close at 1,570.05.
The worst performers were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was down 5.01% to 1,797.00 in late trade, NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which lost 1.91% to settle at 316.10 and HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which was down 1.73% to 1,650.65 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1166 to 1007 and 34 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1911 fell and 1764 advanced, while 107 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.50% to 13.69.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.35% or 7.65 to $2,175.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.59% or 0.48 to hit $80.78 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.59% or 0.50 to trade at $84.92 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.10% to 82.88, while EUR/INR rose 0.01% to 90.29.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 102.96.
