Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Metals, Capital Goods and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.95%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.96%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN), which rose 4.11% or 5.75 points to trade at 146.55 at the close. UPL Ltd (NS:UPLL) added 4.73% or 23.80 points to end at 527.20 and Bajaj Finserv Ltd (NS:BJFS) was up 4.57% or 323.85 points to 7415.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN), which lost 5.03% or 22.10 points to trade at 417.15 in late trade. Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd (NS:INBF) declined 4.96% or 28.45 points to end at 551.35 and Wipro Ltd (NS:WIPR) shed 2.86% or 7.40 points to 251.05.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which rose 4.87% to 146.55, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was up 4.61% to settle at 364.45 and Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which gained 4.01% to close at 76.55.
The worst performers were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 4.69% to 417.05 in late trade, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which lost 1.27% to settle at 1492.65 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was down 1.21% to 126.75 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 856 to 698 and 69 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1258 rose and 1123 declined, while 133 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 7.99% to 16.3575.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.29% or 4.45 to $1518.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.59% or 0.91 to hit $56.19 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.27% or 0.78 to trade at $60.52 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.10% to 71.335, while EUR/INR rose 0.04% to 79.7810.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.10% at 97.537.
