India shares higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.87%

Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Real Estate, Banking and Capital Goods sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.87%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.96%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were State Bank Of India (NS:SBI), which rose 4.05% or 10.00 points to trade at 256.80 at the close. ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK) added 3.91% or 11.20 points to end at 296.95 and Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) was up 3.44% or 12.95 points to 387.95 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN), which lost 2.83% or 14.85 points to trade at 514.60 in late trade. Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) declined 1.77% or 11.45 points to end at 635.90 and Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB) shed 0.99% or 3.10 points to 308.55.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which rose 4.09% to 256.75, ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which was up 3.58% to settle at 296.95 and Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (BO:APSE) which gained 2.95% to close at 388.60.

The worst performers were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was down 1.98% to 635.20 in late trade, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which lost 1.85% to settle at 515.40 and Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which was down 1.63% to 307.80 at the close.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 873 to 732 and 34 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1480 fell and 1161 advanced, while 149 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 7.10% to 14.5850.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.12% or 1.60 to $1326.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.03% or 0.02 to hit $61.17 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.09% or 0.06 to trade at $64.28 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.26% to 65.095, while EUR/INR fell 0.03% to 80.5010.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.21% at 89.75.
