Investing.com – Germany equities were mixed at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Utilities, Retail and Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Construction, Basic Resources and Transportation & Logistics sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX lost 0.49%, while the MDAX index fell 0.26%, and the TecDAX index added 0.12%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were RWE AG ST O.N. (DE:RWEG), which rose 1.09% or 0.220 points to trade at 20.435 at the close. Fresenius Medical Care KGAA ST (DE:FMEG) added 1.01% or 0.800 points to end at 79.920 and Linde AG O.N. (DE:LING) was up 0.45% or 0.75 points to 166.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (DE:DBKGn), which lost 3.22% or 0.470 points to trade at 14.110 in late trade. Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE:CBKG) declined 2.86% or 0.320 points to end at 10.880 and Heidelbergcement AG O.N. (DE:HEIG) shed 1.43% or 1.170 points to 80.580.
The top performers on the MDAX were Uniper SE (DE:UN01) which rose 2.26% to 20.555, Wacker Chemie O.N. (DE:WCHG) which was up 1.42% to settle at 103.35 and Norma Group AG NA O.N. (DE:NOEJ) which gained 1.17% to close at 52.890.
The worst performers were Stroeer SE (DE:SAXG) which was down 1.60% to 57.280 in late trade, Aareal Bank AG (DE:ARLG) which lost 1.56% to settle at 34.950 and Bilfinger SE O.N. (DE:GBFG) which was down 1.39% to 35.745 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Evotec AG O.N. (DE:EVTG) which rose 2.87% to 15.420, Jenoptik AG (DE:JENG) which was up 1.36% to settle at 23.835 and Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (DE:SATG_p) which gained 1.28% to close at 84.580.
The worst performers were SMA Solar Technology AG (DE:S92G) which was down 3.28% to 34.675 in late trade, GFT Technologies AG (DE:GFTG) which lost 2.88% to settle at 16.710 and Nordex SE O.N. (DE:NDXG) which was down 1.97% to 12.200 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 457 to 299 and 32 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 5.66% to 15.03.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.68% or 8.69 to $1291.59 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.21% or 0.10 to hit $46.88 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.86% or 0.43 to trade at $50.70 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.22% to 1.1740, while EUR/GBP fell 0.18% to 0.9112.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.14% at 93.54.
