Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Clean Technology, Utilities and REITs sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.57%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM), which rose 10.73% or 1.80 points to trade at 18.58 at the close. IGM Financial Inc . (TSX:IGM) added 6.24% or 2.23 points to end at 37.96 and Capstone Mining Corp (TSX:CS) was up 5.85% or 0.55 points to 9.95 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Open Text Corp (TSX:OTEX), which lost 14.75% or 7.16 points to trade at 41.38 in late trade. Stella-Jones Inc. (TSX:SJ) declined 9.39% or 7.51 points to end at 72.49 and Toronto Dominion Bank (TSX:TD) shed 5.84% or 4.64 points to 74.80.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 537 to 417 and 89 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 5.67% to 12.64.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.00% or 0.05 to $2,309.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.17% or 0.92 to hit $78.03 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.97% or 0.81 to trade at $82.86 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.07% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.44% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.23% at 104.93.
