Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Healthcare, Materials and Utilities sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.09%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Northwest Healthcare Properties REIT (TSX:NWH_u), which rose 8.55% or 0.36 points to trade at 4.57 at the close. Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAC) added 7.87% or 0.64 points to end at 8.77 and Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY) was up 7.80% or 0.17 points to 2.35 in late trade.
Biggest losers included BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB), which lost 7.71% or 0.32 points to trade at 3.83 in late trade. Enghouse Systems Ltd (TSX:ENGH) declined 4.43% or 1.43 points to end at 30.87 and Laurentian Bank Of Canada (TSX:LB) shed 4.13% or 1.19 points to 27.63.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 515 to 423 and 113 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.18% to 11.67.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.26% or 5.55 to $2,161.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.32% or 0.26 to hit $81.00 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.14% or 0.12 to trade at $85.30 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.07% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.12% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.07% at 103.06.
