Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Financials and Public Utilities sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa gained 3.66% to hit a new 6-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3), which rose 20.62% or 1.85 points to trade at 10.82 at the close. Bradespar SA (SA:BRAP4) added 11.30% or 0.78 points to end at 7.68 and Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5) was up 11.17% or 0.20 points to 1.99 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Qualicorp SA (SA:QUAL3), which lost 4.00% or 0.65 points to trade at 15.58 in late trade. Oi SA (SA:OIBR3) declined 2.17% or 0.02 points to end at 0.90 and CETIP SA - Mercados Organizados (SA:CTIP3) shed 0.93% or 0.39 points to 41.51.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 224 to 85 and 20 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 0.45% to 57.79.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 0.09% or 1.10 to $1256.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 3.54% or 1.43 to hit $41.79 a barrel, while the May US coffee C contract rose 1.18% or 1.45 to trade at $124.53 .
USD/BRL was down 0.31% to 3.4856, while EUR/BRL fell 0.49% to 3.9686.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.07% at 94.04.
