Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Financials, Real Estate and Electric Power sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa gained 1.62% to hit a new 52-week high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Cia Energetica de Minas Gerais (SA:CMIG4), which rose 6.53% or 0.53 points to trade at 8.65 at the close. Companhia Brasileira deDistribuicao (SA:PCAR4) added 5.72% or 2.96 points to end at 54.71 and Banco do Brasil SA (SA:BBAS3) was up 5.32% or 0.96 points to 19.01 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Smiles ON (SA:SMLE3), which lost 4.51% or 2.19 points to trade at 46.35 in late trade. Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3) declined 4.06% or 0.88 points to end at 20.82 and Suzano Papel e Celulose SA (SA:SUZB5) shed 2.72% or 0.31 points to 11.08.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 204 to 99 and 18 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 0.49% to 34.42 a new 6-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was down 0.73% or 9.85 to $1333.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.68% or 0.75 to hit $45.50 a barrel, while the September US coffee C contract rose 3.42% or 5.05 to trade at $152.57 .
USD/BRL was down 0.27% to 3.2549, while EUR/BRL fell 0.07% to 3.6188.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.26% at 96.11.
