Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Industrials and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa declined 0.29%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Companhia Brasileira deDistribuicao (SA:PCAR4), which rose 5.01% or 2.51 points to trade at 52.56 at the close. EcoRodovias SA (SA:ECOR3) added 3.59% or 0.26 points to end at 7.50 and CPFL Energia SA (SA:CPFE3) was up 1.85% or 0.45 points to 24.74 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Gerdau SA (SA:GGBR4), which lost 5.23% or 0.71 points to trade at 12.87 in late trade. Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) declined 4.97% or 0.29 points to end at 5.54 and Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3) shed 3.00% or 0.35 points to 11.30.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 38 to 26 and 42 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 4.71% to 39.57.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was up 0.21% or 2.45 to $1164.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 1.88% or 0.97 to hit $52.47 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract rose 2.37% or 3.30 to trade at $142.68 .
USD/BRL was down 1.22% to 3.3389, while EUR/BRL fell 0.54% to 3.5498.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.58% at 101.01.
